The tournament takes place each year in the October-December time frame. It is a single-elimination tournament spanning a 6 week period.
The tournament starts with an opening night party where the draws are posted (they are posted online the next day). Players can find out who their first round opponents are and start to schedule their first match.
There is a "Play By" date for each round. In general, players will play 1 match per 7-10 days. The winner reports the score either online or on the Draw Sheets at the KBTA courts and checks the draw to find out who their next opponent is and schedules that match and so on.
Matches should be played on clay at the KBTA courts in Key Biscayne. There is no charge for tournament matches played at KBTA. However, if all players agree, a match can be played at any location and on any surface. All Finals will be played at KBTA on clay.
